CRAIG MACHEN
Craig Machen began his career writing bios for comedians while managing The Improv in college. After graduation, he moved to Hollywood where he worked as a story analyst, helping to improve scripts for studios and production companies. In 1997, Craig sold his first two screenplays, and he has since written for Columbia Pictures, The Jim Henson Co., 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers Television, Viacom, Paramount Television, VH1, Tollin Robbins Entertainment, The WB, Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films, Ivan Reitman’s Montecito Pictures, DreamWorks and others. In addition, Craig was a writer on Aaron Spelling’s Summerland, and wrote the Prism Award winning movie Wasted for MTV.
Craig began teaching writing when his sons were little and has spoken on numerous writing panels, and at conferences and universities, including UCLA’s Film school. While working with students from elementary school to high school age, Craig developed a straightforward method for helping young writers to grasp the fundamentals of story telling, reading comprehension and essay composition. It really is as simple as beginning, middle and end, and about that easy to learn.
Craig also works regularly with university students and other adult writers in one-on-one meetings or in small groups. These sessions can be done in person (if you live in the Los Angeles area - or have a massive travel budget), on the phone, via Skype (We've had students as far away as Italy.), or even through email exchanges.
